Flowers are a beautiful, colorful and expressive part of any painting… whether that painting is a still life, landscape or even an abstract.

This one-time workshop will show you different ways to paint some of the common flowers that you’ll find in your backyard.  The workshop is appropriate for beginners and more experienced painters. In advance of the workshop, you will receive an email with additional information, including a list of materials.

Green is one of the hardest colors to mix and to use.  Not only does this color lean into many others when mixing it, but there is also the difficulty of having a dominant wavelength, making it a hard color for us even to visualize green correctly.

Still, there are greens all around us, especially when we are outside doing plein air painting.  Somehow, we must mix a green that will coordinate with our palette and give the information that we need it to say.

This workshop will address the joys and tribulations of mixing and using green colors.  We will be looking at various ways of creating greens (including one that does not include a blue and yellow!) as well as the best uses for various tones.

Participants in this workshop will be doing color exercises and then working on a painting that will require the use of many greens.

This workshop is appropriate for both beginners and more experienced painters.   You will receive information and a materials list after you sign up.  The zoom link will be sent to you a few days before the workshop. 

Irises are one of the most joyous flowers to paint, especially in watercolors.  The Presby Iris Gardens in Upper Montclair, NJ, is one of my favorite plein air destinations to paint.  They have more than 14,000 different kinds of irises in almost every color imaginable... certainly more than enough to motivate a watercolor painter!  Meet me at the gardens and together we’ll paint glorious flowers in an inspiring setting with a Victorian house as a backdrop. 

This plein air (in-person) workshop is appropriate for both beginners and more experienced painters.  Participating painters will get an informational email (including the materials list) prior to the workshop date.  There will be a lesson and demo at the start of the workshop about how to approach painting an iris.
